The UK has some of the best motorbike riding anywhere in the world. With winding open roads and picturesque scenery, for the motorcycling enthusiast it is heaven. You do not need the world’s most expensive bike or a lot of money. So, grab your leathers and helmet and check out five of the best biker routes in the UK.
The Yorkshire Loop
Kicking off our list is the Yorkshire Loop which is one of the UK’s most popular motorcycle routes. This 98-mile ride showcases some of Yorkshire’s most breath-taking scenery. The loop will take you through the Dales giving you the time to stop at some biker-friendly spots for a cup of Yorkshire’s finest tea.
The route will take you from Ripon through East Witton, Hawes, Ribblesdale and Threshfield. The loop is a mix of challenging ascents and long open flat roads where you can unleash the throttle a little. If you have not experienced, it before then it is the perfect route to start with.
Hardknott Pass in the Lake District is a route for the more experienced petrol head. The route holds the joint record for the steepest road in Britain, with the other being the Rosedale Chimney Bank in North Yorkshire. Your dedication and patience along this route will be well worth it when you have finally ridden to the top of the 1,291 ft ascent and catch sight of the spectacular view across the Irish Sea and the Isle of Man in the distance.
Cat & Fiddle climb
Not all motorcycle routes are without a bit of danger and the Cat & Fiddle climb is regarded as the most dangerous roads in the UK, so care needs to be taken here. The route includes many sharp corners across the rolling countryside, and it commands a great deal of respect. As well as the average speed cameras you will also need to keep a sharp eye on wandering wildlife and cyclists.
Wales is filled with many great motorcycle routes which cater to all levels of ability. The area is renowned for beautiful scenery and the Brecon Beacons national park is a favourite with regular riders. The routes are well maintained, and you can find many planned routes to suit your tastes. South Wales is a true bikers paradise and one that if you get the chance you should visit right away.
East Coast discovery route
The East Coast discovery route is full of quaint seaside resorts which capture some brilliant roads across the Yorkshire moorland. You can pick up the route from Skegness and head down the East Coast through Mablethorpe and out towards the Humber Bridge. The route has some great sweeping corners that will push your skills to the limit as well as some hidden dips and corkscrews, so keep an eye out for those.
